Re: 'Be alert to allergens in restaurant meals' (Sept. 7)

This story advising patrons to be alert to allergens when eating in restaurants fails to mention a serious allergy trigger hidden in many restaurant meals -- latex. Latex-allergic people are at risk of ingesting food that has been handled by people wearing latex gloves in restaurants and fast food outlets, as well as the bakeries and delicatessens of many supermarkets. Latex allergy is also a condition that develops through repeated exposure.
